Leeds Vineyard

A Question about Work

SEPTEMBER
WorkIn September I will be teaching a four-part series on work. Is work good or is it bad? Is some work better than other work? Why do we work? What does the bible say about work? Is there a difference between the work done by someone who follows Jesus and someone who doesn’t? How can work be fulfilling, meaningful and connect with the rest of our life in a balanced and healthy way? What changes at work when you follow Jesus?

But I would love to hear from YOU. I am sure each of you has a story about how your faith has made a difference at the work you do. I am sure everyone has prayed about their work – what did you pray and what happened? It would really help me if you would email me with your story. Or perhaps you know someone in the church who has a work story and you can nudge them to tell me.

Also in September we have a Welcome Supper on Monday 1 September and then the next Discovering Vineyard Course which runs on four Wednesday evenings from 3 September. If you’ve not done the course please do sign up. If you know someone who is new to the Vineyard, please encourage them to come along too.

WEEKLY WORSHIP – DIET AUGUST VERSION
We had a marvellous time last Sunday morning wondering whether Andrew Lingham’s digestion was good enough to compensate for his lack of lustrous hair (you had to be there) - as he taught from 1 Corinthians 12. And then we all contributed to a line of pennants to illustrate how different we are and yet we are all part of one body.

Next week it’s all about balloons. Well, the theme is, “We are gathered to hear God speak” but the activity is about getting air into balloons and then sharing them with the happy residents of Headingley. Don’t miss it!

KENYA
kenyaflagmapThe following week I am off to Kenya with my son, Sam, and the Wallace family. Alison is staying in Leeds to keep an eye on her parents - and she is on holiday. If you would like to support the Kenya trip please give money at www.give.net/flowersinkenya or let us have: largish suitcases, flat footballs, flat rugby balls, pumps, cricket sets, colouring-in stuff and (light) play-things for children, trainers, T shirts, a guitar etc.

STUDENTS
Isn’t Headingley quiet and peaceful without our learned friends in attendance? But we will be welcoming them back in a few weeks. We would love to see some students make Leeds Vineyard their home. I know that some of the students coming to Leeds should be in the Vineyard and our job is to help them find their way here. So I would like you to pray. Pray for students, some just having finished school, others in their summer break, others working through. Pray for the ones you know (especially those going from Leeds Vineyard families) and for those we will get to meet soon. Pray for safety, for wisdom in decision-making and friendship-making. For good provision of accommodation. Many will reach out to God, maybe for the first time, amongst the challenges of student life away from home – pray that they will experience His love for them. And pray that many students will be gathered to the Vineyard as we build bridges into the student community.

By the way, over August the office is on a skeleton operation. Please don't be cross if it is closed or it takes a while to get a reply - most of our staff are taking holiday or on a mission somewhere!

Peace

David
P.S. Don’t forget – tell me your work story.
